In my work I explore ideas about the rituals of food and the politics of eating. Place settings, eating utensils, and cooking implements are all considered part of my visual vocabulary.
“Collector Plates” takes a look at common objects in everyday use, and imbues them with the material importance of craft traditions. In these pieces images of flatware I forged are transferred onto paper plates and embellished with paint, gold leaf and gold foil. The grouping is displayed mounted on the wall.
